儿女的成功就是母亲的心愿！——寄语竹林听雨（译文东方晨曦）

竹林听雨：

这几天你正在烙饼，爆烤让你心焦。不要紧，沉住气，儿子是块金子，放在哪里都发光！

我建议，你还是选择北京的高校，考进清华北大当然是我们家长的心愿。考上别的高等院校也好！本科，在知识序列里只是个台阶，登上这个台阶没问题！等到上完大学本科，读研要去海外。因为中国的清华北大在世界排名上也不怎么前沿。不要说我有崇洋媚外的思想，我是实话实说，从实际出发。给你提个建议仅供参考。因为我是过来人，走过了这座桥。

首先致贺你，儿子成人又成才，就是母亲最大的心愿！母亲付出的辛苦多多！！！

孩子将来是从事科研还是搞实业，金融财会还是当地方官吏，都要尊重孩子的选择，要争取让儿子心情愉快地到大学校园度过他美好的青春时光，不要拿出家长的威风压制孩子，使孩子心理压抑抑郁，商量着报考志愿，多报几个院校，高的低的都有，容易被录取。这个时候，许多孩子家长愿意为孩子包揽，造成孩子心理有抵触逆反，即使你给孩子选择的极好，儿子被动地极不情愿地带有厌烦情绪地走进大学校园不好，还是让他心情愉快地高高兴兴地跨进大学校园好！

在中国，大学生很少从事自己所学专业，绝大多数是从事非所学专业。学理工的去当官，学文科的去经商……见怪不怪！现代人们都是比较现实的，能生存就是本事！

北京，中国的首都。科技教育相对来说还算凑合着，是通向世界的窗口。孩子距家近，又有亲友们照护着，这是次要的，主要的是将来孩子有一大群学友，分布到国内外，学友手足相互帮助，非常重要的人才潜力资源，年轻人大学毕业后，走上社会，两眼一抹黑是寸步难行的，要有一大帮狐朋狗友携手相助，许多事情办起来就容易得多！

I know you are worried about your son recently. You have a great son, and I think he will be great wherever he is.

For college application, I suggest colleges in Beijing be the first choice. Tsinghua University and Peking University are obviously the No. 1 choices for us parents, but other universities are also great. For me, college education is just one part of our knowledge chains, which is easy to accomplish. After college education, I would suggest further education in abroad. Tsinghua University and Peking University are barely the top schools in the world. You might think I have a blind faith in foreign school. Well, I am just telling the truth. And this is just a practical advice for the application. I have gone through this, and I understand how you feel and what college means.

Well, first of all, I would like to congratulate you. Your son is a grown up man. That’s what we parents looking forward to, especially mothers.

Well, the next thing is that we have to respect the choice of our children. Whether they want to be a scientist, an entrepreneur, a financial practitioner or a government official, it is their choice. What we need to do is to help them get into college and have a wonderful college life. You don’t want to depress them with paternalism and make them choose what you want. And rather, we should discuss and communicate with them about their ideas. More choices of different level of colleges are preferred, so as to get a good chance to be accepted. A wonderful college life starts from independent choice your son; on the contrary, taking on everything for your kid will only bring resistance no matter how great the school you choose for him is.

Beijing, the capital of China, has a fairly good environment for education. It could be a window for your son to see the world. And besides, Beijing is closer and there are a lot of friends and relatives there to help. The most important thing is that after college, your son will have a bunch of classmates, who might work everywhere in China or abroad. They are very valuable resources for your son. It is their help that will make your son better adapted to the society. With their help, a lot of difficult things become easier.
